how to brew matcha
how to brew matcha

This method ideally utilises a traditional tea bowl, bamboo whisk and tea ladle.

Put 2g (1 to 1½ tea ladles) of sieved matcha into tea bowl (180ml).

Pour 60ml freshly boiled water into tea cup (to warm the cup and cool the water).

Pour water from cup into pot (about 80°C now).

Gently pour out pot into bowl.

Using a quick back and forth stroking motion in the shape of an "M", whisk the matcha until smooth.

Serve matcha in the tea bowl and enjoy the creamy frothy matcha immediately. The particles of the finely ground matcha powder do not actually dissolve but are in suspension and will settle in the bowl, so best drink before that happens.
