Scented teas are exquisite combinations of natural fruit or floral scents gently infused into fine quality teas, which may be green, white, oolong or black.

The Chinese long ago mastered the art of scenting tea with flowers and fruits, without there being any flowers or fruits in the end product.

Usually very large quantities of beautiful, freshly picked jasmine, rose, peach, osmanthus or chrysanthemum blossoms are layered with the dried tea leaves, i.e. stacked in thin layers of tea leaves and jasmine flowers separated by screens. For highest quality teas, the flowers are changed several times and the scenting process can last up to a week.

A similar process is undergone with teas such as Lychee Black, which are scented naturally with slices of fresh, exotic fruits. The blossoms, or fruits, impart their scent to the tea leaves, and the tea, when brewed, has a delicate but distinctive taste and a wonderful, sumptuous aroma.

Scented teas can enhance a meal and are delicious iced on a hot summer’s afternoon and just as excellent for a warming libation on a nippy winter’s morning.
